The Use of Nuvigil 150mg For Menopause-Related Fatigue

nuvigil 150mg

The burden women carry due to the mental and physical issues, is greater than that of what men go through. The burden of menopausal symptoms is greater and known than generally perceived. Total of about 80% of women experience vasomotor symptoms (VMS). These symptoms are usually described as night sweats, flushes and hot flashes. Vulvovaginal atrophy, often known as vaginal dryness is related to decrease estrogen associated with menopause and it is known to be as the most common cause of dyspareunia in menopausal and postmenopausal women. For most women, the symptoms are manageable, but for the other half, these symptoms can negatively affect sleep, mood and quality of life. Clinical guidelines suggest that menopausal vasomotor symptoms (VMS) can last from 6 months to 2 years.  A new study says that for many women, the duration of symptoms is much longer.

For the treatment of menopausal symptoms, clinical guidelines recommend shorter duration of hormonal therapy. Many women choose to use non-hormonal treatments. Women may benefit from a variety of interventions that include acupuncture and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). On the other hand, effective pharmacologic interventions include selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors, gabapentin, pregabalin and clonidine. Through this, we get to see how these interventions usually work well, addressing vasomotor symptoms and sleep problems. Many perimenopausal women continue to complain of fatigue. At this point, the use of the highly-known and preferred medication Armodafinil, also known as Nuvigil Tablet is used. The medication is usually used to treat daytime sleepiness in patients with narcolepsy and other sleep disorders. A new study evolved the use of this medication, to treat menopause-related fatigue and quality of life.

Women at the age between 40-65 years with menopause-related fatigue received open-label Nuvigil therapy for 4 weeks. Symptoms were thorough and checked during the brief fatigue inventory score and menopause-specific quality of life. After the open-label treatment, participants were randomized to double-blind continuation of the drug versus placebo for 2 weeks to determine the effects of treatment discontinuation. 20 out of 29 women completed the trial. During the treatment, the median brief fatigue inventory scores decreased by 57.7% and median physical domain scores decreased by 51.3%. Women who undertook the procedure happened to gain improvements in number of hot flashes that decrease by 48.3&, cognitive function with 59.2%, depressive symptoms by 64.7%, insomnia by 72.7% and excessive sleepiness by 27.1%

Women and every health care provider must necessarily recognize that menopausal symptoms is not just a nuisance and, therefore it needs to be endured. The impact menopausal symptoms may have on women's quality of life and their ability to function effectively is way more difficult than that of a normal woman's life. It is imperative that we find treatments, that are safe and effective for managing the array of symptoms each woman may have to go through as they get to the levels of menopause.
